The teaching and research that the DSLC promotes stems from the interconnections between linguistics, translation studies, literature, history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, economics and law, with a focus on digital communication.
In teaching, this multidisciplinary approach characterizes a variety of degree courses through innovative teaching and by promoting knowledge and skills that are crucial for participation in new forms of communication. Degree courses are also characterized by a wide range of curricula. These aim at helping students acquire professional skills required by the job market, both locally and internationally.
The DSLC promotes interdisciplinary research, including important collaboration with the areas of computer science and medicine. It works closely with public actors and private enterprises throughout Italy and abroad.
The most important areas of teaching, research and third mission involve:
- forms of communication (texts, forms of discourse, institutional interaction and linguistic-cultural mediation), including corpus design and analysis;
- translation and circulation of specialized texts;
- historical studies on ideologies, nationalisms, identity construction, and cultural movements;
- the historical-artistic-literary heritage;
- history of ideas and philosophy of language;
- anthropological and ethnographic studies of contemporary society;
- religious studies, with a focus on Christianity and Islam.
The DSLC disseminates the results of its research through third mission and public engagement activities, and by creating opportunities for training and professional development both locally and nationally.
